John Joseph “Johnny Joe” Ligon, age 90 of Anna, died Friday, March 24, 2023 at his home. He was born December 2, 1932 in Anna, the son of John Earl and Ruby Charllean Jungers Ligon. He married Louise Hileman on June 5, 1953 in Anna. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2012.
John is survived by his three children, Joni (Don) Yates, John P. (Cheryl) Ligon, and Lisa (Donald) Skelton all of Anna; nine grandchildren, Andy Yates, Bethany Waters, James (Becca) Yates, Natalie (Nick) Ellis, Carrie (Christian) Davis, John Michael Ligon, Stefan (Kristen) Skelton, Nick Skelton, and Amber (Aaron) Filbeck; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, James (Kim) Ligon of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sister, Jean (Herb) Hall of Anna; other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Louise Ligon.
Johnny Joe managed Ligon Lumber Yard in Anna for many years. Johnny Joe was a regular at KiKi’s Coffee House, his favorite morning spot to catch up on current events with the regulars. He thought of Steve and Kathy as family and always enjoyed open mic night. Johnny Joe was passionate about aviation and had his private piolet license. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Johnny Joe attended the Pulaski Christian Church.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Friends and family may visit after 12:00 p.m. and until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
